The first generation of the internet was the internet of information, and it did lots of great things. It’s not that great for business, though, because you can’t exchange value (like money) without an intermediary – a government, a credit card company, a bank, PayPal, or something like that. And that means a lot of the benefits of the digital age have been captured by some very powerful forces. Now we have an opportunity to exchange not just information, but value in a very meaningful way. And that transforms virtually every institution.
